– St. Mary’s Hospital has been recognized again as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures®
for Heart Attack, Pneumonia, and Surgical Care by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in the U.S.
St. Mary’s Hospital was recognized for using evidence-based clinical care processes that are closely linked to positive patient outcomes.
To be recognized with this honor, hospitals must attain and sustain, nearly perfect quality indicator scores – in the 95th percentile or above – across all reported key quality measures throughout 2012. A 95 percent score means a hospital performed nearly perfect by using an evidence-based practice 95 times out of 100 opportunities. Each key quality measure represents a best practice process shown to improve care for certain conditions, including: heart attack, pneumonia, and surgery.
This is the second year in a row St. Mary's Hospital received this honor. “We understand what matters most to patients when they visit St. Mary’s Hospital; it is high quality, safe, effective care,” said St. Mary’s Hospital President Bruce Merrell. “I appreciate the exceptional medical staff leadership and the great patient care provided by our team of nurses, clinical, and support staff.”
A total of 1,099 hospitals – about 33 percent of all hospitals accredited by The Joint Commission – were recognized as Top Performer hospitals. The entire list can be found on The Joint Commission's website at www.jointcommission.org.
In addition to being included in The Joint Commission’s “Improving America’s Hospitals” annual report, St. Mary’s Hospital will also be recognized on The Joint Commission’s Quality Check website (www.qualitycheck.org).
