(FLORA, IL) St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Inc. (SMGSI) has signed an agreement with Clay County, Illinois to begin managing Clay County Hospital effective January 1, 2014. The agreement will enhance the existing relationship of the two organizations to provide greater collaboration and improved health care services in south-central Illinois.
Clay County Hospital is a 22-bed critical access hospital with ten employed providers and nearly 200 employees who have been serving the health care needs of Clay County residents for more than 60 years. Clay County Hospital is owned by Clay County and has been managed by BJC HealthCare, located in St. Louis.
Under the new agreement, Clay County Hospital will be managed by SMGSI, which has two hospitals located in Mt. Vernon and Centralia, Illinois, approximately 50 miles from Clay County Hospital.

A partnership with St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Inc. will provide local caregivers and residents with an integrated network of specialty physicians and support services. In the midst of a rapidly changing health care industry, Clay County Hospital will also benefit from the expertise of SSM Health Care, which has received national recognition for industry leadership and quality.
